28.01.2014: DO ''COLOUR REVOLUTIONS'' HAPPEN SPONTANEOUSLY?

Written by Vladimir Platov*

For over 3 years countries of the Arab world have lived under the influence of “revolutions” which have shaken the political foundations of a number of states in the region, bringing about a change in the ruling elite and the emergence of new political parties and movements. Among local – and external – media outlets there is tireless discussion of the fundamental question: to whom did these “revolutions” prove profitable and who was their real instigator? These questions are posed by columnists following the emergence and development of “colour revolutions” in other world regions, particularly the events in Ukraine, which have seen a resurgence in recent times. Experts are especially perplexed by the actions of EU and U.S. politicians, calling the Ukrainian opposition to greater action against the country’s legally elected government – with whom, incidentally, the EU and the U.S. foster diplomatic relations, as officially attested to by those currently in power in Kiev.

22.01.2014: THE BEGINNING OF DAVUDOGLU'S END?

Confronted with a deepening government corruption scandal and growing instability on the Turkish-Syrian border, people within the Islamist political establishment of Turkey,  began to question the country’s foreign policy, particularly on Syria. Are we evidencing a shift in Ankara’s diplomatic and security policies? Are we seeing the beginning of the end of Davutoglu? These are the question the present article is dealing with. The situation in Turkey remains serious for the government and the country. Internally, the Islamist Justice and Development Party (AKP) government is still in crisis over the corruption scandal which allegedly involves the sons of government Ministers, the State Bank, and probably Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s son.

26.12.2013: EUROPE > ISLAMIC FUNDAMENTALISM IS WIDESPREAD

Written by Soeren Kern*

A discussion paper published by the Germany-based Gustav Stresemann Foundation -- a think tank dedicated to the preservation and advancement of liberal democracy in Europe -- warns that national and international Islamic organizations are increasingly putting pressure on Western politicians gradually to criminalize any critique of Islam. In a commentary on the study, the German newspaper Die Welt says the findings cast serious doubt on the unbridled optimism of European multiculturalists, who argue that Muslim citizens will eventually internalize the mindset of Western democracies. The majority of Muslims in Europe believe Islamic Sharia law should take precedence over the secular constitutions and laws of their European host countries, according to a new study, which warns that Islamic fundamentalism is widespread and rising sharply in Western Europe.

07.01.2014: A NARCISSISTIC US, AN ANXIOUS SAUDI ARABIA AND A HYSTERICAL ISRAEL

Written by Amal Saad-Ghorayeb*

For far too long now, members of the Resistance Axis (Iran, Syria, Hezbollah and Hamas) have been the objects of the West’s psychopathologizsing gaze, as I have documented on my blog, ASG’s Counter-Hegemony Unit. While the Syrian government has been pathologised as “delusional” and “detached from reality”, Iran has similarly been anthromorphised and classified as an “irrational” actor whose foreign policy behavior closely resembles a person suffering from Anti-Social Personality disorder. Dubbed a “rogue state” by successive US administrations, official statements and political analyses of Iran’s political behavior have drawn extensively from criteria and symptomology contained in the various editions of the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), US’ psychiatry bible.

20.12.2013: SAMARAS CRETE ENERGY SELLOUT TO TURKS CONFIRMED

Written by John Ward*

Senior Athens sources last night confirmed The Slog’s blogosphere exclusive from last Monday on the subject of 70% of the income from Cretian energy and rare earth finds off Crete going into non-Greek coffers. But further evidence of bribery and energy finds in Cyprus show yet again that Greece’s sphere of Mediterranean influence is merely an unwilling prize in the ongoing energy, banking and German hegemony game. Said a senior Greek Government consultant yesterday: “All I know is that the Professor [minerologist Antonis Foskolos] is absolutely correct. I have the technical reports to prove it…..there is a secret deal whereby Turkey gets 40%, Greece 30%, Cyprus 20% and Brussels 10%.” The figure most likely to both alarm and anger Greeks of all class and age groups is the inexplicable (in justice terms) award of more income from the Crete find for Turkey than Greece.
